Snowscapes

I put together a two day comparison of views of Popolopen Creek along Mine Road in Orange County NY. The landscape along Mine Road is idyllic with Popolopen Creek winding through wide flood plains bordered by the mountains of the Hudson Highlands. Today’s shots are a view of how the snowfall of yesterday afternoon and evening altered the appearance of the creek. 24 hours can make quite a difference in how a natural feature looks from one day to the next. Witness the shots of the creek from yesterday and then today.

Cascades

With a fair amount of rainfall in the past several weeks, the Creek is once again flowing at a moderate clip. Image is tinted with the amber hues of dormant vegetation augmented by the grays of the granite boulders and cobbles in the stream bed.

After the snow….

Yesterday, the only white in the scene was from the white foam forming as the stream rolled along and a bit of ice on the rocks. Today, white is the dominant color of all that is not actually part of the stream.

Looking downstream prior to the snow on Sunday.

Today, it’s a Winter Wonderland….
